Introduction

Every war has it's casualties, and the need for help to tend to the wounded, the sick and the dying is always great. It is rough work, and in the Civil War the conditions were often unsanitary and harsh, with overcrowded hospitals and not always enough hands to help. This was one route that allowed women to show their support in the war effort and leave their mark in history. Both women and men were able to lend an important hand in the war and aide the soldiers that were fighting for them.
